The Hater
Week #5

Rain comes in many forms: It can drizzle where it is constant but light, it can be intermittent where it comes and goes, it can pour where it falls down in buckets, and it can be released in stacks on unsuspecting women. Hence, “making it rain”!

I was first introduced to the concept of making it rain by a fellow Shanghai stalwart and baller, TW. He regaled me with stories of his travels throughout Asia and his attempts to better the lives of the less fortunate; all by polishing off his stacks. Now, I agree most people could just donate to a charity and I, myself, have tried to do such a thing in the past. But, when you play the role of a rapscallion, you can sometimes be reprimanded for your errant ways. Not being a choir boy and being better suited to a scoundrel’s way of life, I decided to heed TW’s advice and give back through said means!

It all started two weeks ago when I headed to Thailand for a gathering of some of the best softball players in all of Asia. There were teams from the US, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan, India, Thailand, and of course China for an International tournament in Pattaya. Shanghai alone had three teams competing: Shwaaak, the Step Dads, and the Blackouts (sponsored by yours truly). The reality was this was going to be a trying three days due to at least four games per day being played in blazing hot heat and on fields recently soaked by torrential downpours. For the first time ever, all three Shanghai teams were able to move on to the Championship round and were competitive the whole way. It was probably the best I had ever played amassing six home runs and leading the team in RBI’s. But that was nothing compared to the games being played in the evenings.

Pattaya is a beach resort with a population of over 100,000 located 165 km southeast of Bangkok. It is not only the location for this prestigious softball tournament at the polo grounds but it is also one of the craziest places on earth overflowing with go-go bars, massage parlours, good time Charlies and the women that love them long time.

On our first night there, the softball teams convened at a theatrical club known as “Angelwitch” which reminded me of scenes from “Eyes Wide Shut” showcasing a multitude of attractive women, masks, nudity, ping pong balls, and moneyed folk. The dancers were quite graceful and through the use of clever lighting, dramatic music, and barely there costumes, the crowd was seduced into parting with their money; none more than TW and his girlfriend who took it a step further by climbing into the rafters and flooding the dance floor with baht generating a labyrinth of naked female forms juxtaposed against the heft of the mamasan’s furnishings. What we now had was a full out cash grab and the girls were in fine form not missing a beat between performance and collecting their rent.

The following night was even crazier when a certain softball team that will remain nameless took over half of the go-go bar “What’s Up” and proceeded to empty the place of its talent by paying their bar fines. I even got into the act as I once was a member of Chippendales and showed the go-go dancers a thing or two when it came to performing my signature moves resplendent in stripper finery to the masterpiece “Gangnam Style” by PSY. And here is my remix of it:

Unfortunately, the following day the team was knocked out of the tournament and I could finally have a rest. I decided I was in need of some major pampering and spent a day at the pool and spa of my lovely hotel to rejuvenate this beat up body. Overall, what a whirlwind weekend and I already look forward to next year’s tournament. However, now I must face the “City of Angels” and that’s a whole different beast! But no need to worry, I still have time to include Spenny’s “Chick of the Week”!

Since I just arrived to LA, I thought I’d choose one of my new friends from this amazing city. You could be confused into thinking she was from Heaven, but CJ Miles is actually from the Philippines and loving life in America. We hung out and she is even cooler than she is sexy. Check her out on https://www.facebook.com/Weluvcjmiles .

Well, that’s it for now. I’m staying here in LA for the month to live, love, and entertain, and will keep you all updated! Until next time…

Ballers Pad in LA

What a busy month it has been! I have gotten the ball rolling with OneKuai.org where every month I will be donating the last Saturday of the month’s DJ fee to OneKuai.org. In addition, I will be putting together a mix CD to be sold for 100 RMB with all proceeds going to OneKuai.org. I look forward to meeting the children that OneKuai.org helps. The reality is that you can never spread enough love and good karma around. If you’re interested in donating, you can visit their website www.onekuai.org. It is a great cause and the kids really need your help.

I wish I could tell you that I retained the title as the Shanghai Softball League homerun champion, but I was beaten by a teammate of mine on the Blackouts. Kudos to you Oliver Moore, I will get you next time. Also, since my last blog entry, I have decided to retire from competitive eating. I find it makes you fat and puts a ridiculous amount of pressure on your digestive tract. Not a smart way to live if you want to be the Kingpin! I have however made a huge effort to start eating healthy and I’ve managed to get down to my lowest weight for almost 6 years! 95.9kg oh yeah!

Keep an eye out on this website for upcoming gigs and feel free to make comments regarding my column on http://www.cityweekend.com.cn/shanghai/articles/blogs-shanghai/shanghais-nightlife/ask-spenny-how-to-be-a-better-dj/ as I enjoy the banter. Also, look for me in Los Angeles throughout the month of November as I have gotten a baller’s pad in Venice Beach and will be making the rounds out there.
